FROM DEIDESHEIM TO ECKKOPF

The hike starts at our sister hotel Kaisergarten (corner of Weinstraße 12).

Turn left towards the vineyards, along the Kaisergarten, continue up the Hohlweg “Große Hohl” and after the ascent take the second path on the left. Follow this path to the Sensental parking lot. At the parking lot, a path on the right (marked with a red dot) leads to St. Michael’s Chapel. From there you have a wonderful view over Deidesheim and even the Rhine plain.

Following the signs, you reach the “Heidenlöcher” at the top of the Kirchberg. Once you reach the “Heidenlöcher”, you will immediately notice the weathered walls, which are the foundations of former houses. Archaeologists believe that this mountain fortress was built for protection in the late Carolingian period. Unfortunately, exact details about the name and the reasons for its construction have been lost in history.

The hike continues in the direction of Eckkopf: first follow the red dot, which later changes to a white dot. After just 3.5 km, you reach the Eckkopf tower. From the top of the tower, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Palatinate Forest. At weekends and on public holidays, the hut is run on various voluntary associations and invites you to traditional Palatinate dishes.

After a little refreshment the hike continues following the white dot to “Weißer Stich”. Then follow the blue and yellow markings to the left back towards Deidesheim. Once you reach the bottom of the valley, you first walk about 30 meters on the road leading sharply to the left and then half right on the path still marked with the blue-yellow markings. This leads directly to the Deidesheim hut called the Waldschenke im Mühltal.

The path leads along the Weinbach, a little stream, to the edge of the forest and then continues as farmers’ before turning left onto the second concrete path. Continue straight ahead on this path, pass the “Oase im Paradiesgarten” the outdoor pool, until you reach Schwimmbadstraße. This turns into the street “Im Ringgarten” and leads left into Friedhofweg and then Platanenweg. You return to Hotel Kaisergarten via Bennstraße.
